INTRODUCTION
International Mathematics Day (IDM) was celebrated for the first time on March 14, 2020, following the 40th UNESCO General Conference on November 26, 2019. The date of March 14 was chosen as IDM because it is already recognized as Pi Day in many countries, based on the fact that some countries write it as 3/14 and the mathematical constant pi is approximately 3.14. Through this declaration, every country is invited to participate in various mathematics-related activities each year, whether at the school, higher education institution, or public level. The theme chosen for IDM2024 is “Playing with Math,” where playing in this context refers to exploring, discovering, and experimenting with mathematics. As a result, the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the Faculty of Science, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Serdang, has taken note of this and plans to organize several competition categories led by involved lecturers. One of the highlighted mathematics competitions is the Math Invention, Innovation & Design. This challenge requires participants to demonstrate how mathematical theories can be transformed into practical innovations that positively impact various industries and aspects of daily life.
OBJECTIVES
- to inspire participants to think creatively and inventively by applying mathematical principles to solve real-world problems.
- to demonstrate how mathematical theories can be transformed into practical innovations that positively impact various industries and aspects of daily life.
- to recognize and reward exceptional projects that exhibit outstanding innovation, creativity, and practicality.
- to celebrate the beauty and significance of mathematics in shaping our world, and to inspire the next generation of mathematicians, inventors, and innovators.
